Acadiana Food Hub, in partnership with the Pugh Family Foundation, recently launched a farm-to-school initiative by providing lunch to teachers at Alice N. Boucher Elementary and J.W. Faulk Elementary.

The farm-to-school initiative aims to promote healthy eating in schools by providing food from local producers and vendors.

Acadiana Food Hub is a local nonprofit that supports local farmers and culinary entrepreneurs in order to strengthen Acadiana’s food supply. This organization provides rentable incubator kitchen spaces, assists restaurateurs with startup paperwork, offers the community a weekly delivery service of local farm produce via Waitr, and more.

Lunches for teachers are the beginning of a larger initiative by Acadiana Food Hub to introduce locally farmed produce into schools and educate students about the importance of knowing where their food comes from.

The lunches featured items made by Louisiana food vendors including Acadian Slice, Helical Outpost Farms, and CajunTyme Ice Tea. The farm-to-school initiative will continue providing meals to teachers at schools in the LPSS Transformation Zone once a month during the spring 2019 semester.
